Beyond "Death by Email": How to Reclaim Your Energy Refund ⚓
Stop letting your inbox (or the washbox) drag you down. Here are 3 simple physical anchors to help withdraw from outward busyness and claim an energy refund.
We’ve all felt it—that heavy, dragging sensation where your energy is being pulled in a dozen different directions before you’ve even finished your first cup of tea.
Maybe for you, it’s "Death by Email."
(that phrase came from one of my 1-2-1 clients this week, and it really resonated - see previous blog!)
Or perhaps it’s "Pain by Password."
(anyone else drowning in passwords?)
It’s that moment your body braces itself against the digital inbox, the mounting to-do list, or the visual clutter of a room that needs tidying and a washbox that needs emptying.
When we brace, we leak energy.
We aren't just doing tasks; we are fighting ghosts, all the would be, could be, should be.........
In the R.E.A.L. Method, our first milestone is REST.
But this isn't about a nap
It’s about stopping the "Performance Leaks" and reclaiming your internal sanctuary.
The Performance Leak:
Are You Leaning In & Tensing Up?
Notice what happens when you sit down to check your messages.
Do you "lean in" toward the screen?
This physical lean is a sensory hook. Your energy is moving outward, following the busyness of the screen, and leaving your center behind.
You have become a victim of the inbox rather than the witness of it.
And your shoulders are possibly rising up to meet your ears.

Try this
The next time you notice you are getting shoulder earrings, give this technique a try;
The Withdrawal Anchor:
- Sit Back: Find your sit-bones.
- Lift the Spine: Lift your breast bone, draw your shoulder blades towards each other and then release them down towards your waist.
- The Result: By changing your posture, you signal to your nervous system that you are anchored. You are no longer being "dragged."
The Somatic Leak: The "Squeeze & Release"
When "decision wariness" hits—that tightness in your chest or the weight on your shoulders—your muscles are holding onto a future that hasn't happened yet.
This is a somatic leak.
To plug this leak, we use the Squeeze & Release.
Try this: Inhale deeply and squeeze every muscle in your body—fists, shoulders, face—for a count of three. Then, exhale forcefully and "throw" the tension away.
This is a physical Withdrawal Anchor.
You are releasing the hook that future decisions have in your muscles and returning yourseld to the present moment.
The Visual Leak: The Foundation of Stillness
We’ve all stood in the middle of a messy room (haven't we?) and felt the "Visual Leak"—where the untidiness feels like it’s draining your battery just by looking at it.
Before you move a single object, find your Tadasana (Mountain Posture).
Stand still.
For 30 seconds, don't look at the mess; look at the space behind your eyes. Remind yourself that the sanctuary is inside you.
When you move from this place of REST, you move with leverage, not just labor.
Claim Your Energy Refund
When you use these anchors—whether it’s sitting back from the screen or the Squeeze & Release—notice that split-second Energy Refund.
It’s that moment where the world stops pulling at you, and you start feeling anchored in your own vitality.
