🪏Deeply Rooted in the Wrong Things

We often become deeply rooted in habits and expectations that drain our energy. Learn how to stop the performance, start the reset, and return to your inner sanctuary.
🪏Deeply Rooted in the Wrong Things
Pete undoing my wayward roots!

Watching Pete dig out a very overgrown plant, I am reminded that nature doesn't apologise for being unruly.

When a plant takes hold in the wrong spot—perhaps too close to the foundation, or simply in a place where it no longer serves the garden—it becomes a source of tension rather than beauty.

For years, we let this patch of our garden grow wild, putting off the hard work of clearing it.

Why?

Life, illness, and the sheer busy-ness of "doing" got in the way.

It’s a perfect mirror for how we often live our lives. We become deeply rooted in habits, roles, and expectations that have long since overgrown their purpose.

We are anchored, yes, but to things that drain our energy instead of nourishing our inner sanctuary.

The Weight of Overgrowth

When we are rooted in the "wrong things"—whether that’s constant performance, the pressure to be everything to everyone, or simply the busy-ness of daily life—we lose our ability to find true stillness.

We get pulled from what Paramhansa Yogananda called our "Portable Paradise".

Our Inner Sanctuary of Peace

Like the roots tangled against the brickwork in that picture, these patterns start to feel like part of the structure of who we are.

But they aren't. They are just overgrowth.

The act of digging the garden roots out is physical, visceral work.

(Thank you so much Pete 😍).

But so is the act of digging out our habits that no longer serve us - habits that like that plant, slowly took over bit by bit.

It requires us to acknowledge that what was once a small seed of a habit has now become a sprawling, difficult tangle that requires effort to remove.

But the relief that comes when the soil is finally clear? That is the beginning of vitality.

Finding Your True Anchor

To find our way back to the Inner Sanctuary of calm and peace, we must learn the practice of withdrawing energy from outward movement through the senses to outer stimulation and busyness and redirecting the energy flow inward to the spine and upward to the Spiritual eye.

We don't need a total life overhaul overnight.

We need moments.

We need to learn how to consciously release the tension we’ve been carrying in our bodies because of the things we've been rooted in.
If you are feeling tangled in your own life, I invite you to start with a small, intentional shift.

Practice the art of letting go, even if just for a few seconds.
